So many choices... gone. Just gone. Where are my burritos, Usdan? Where?!

This is highly unscientific. I think you should make it clear that this poll was done in such a manner. While it may seem like a statstically significant response, but there are many confouding variables that prevent you from making the conclusion found in the headline of this article. As a member of the scientific and mathematic community here at Wesleyan, I suggest you make the header more appropriate.

PANINI!? SKIM MILK?!
What's happened to you?!

Anonymous said...

WHERE THE FUCK IS...
1) The two girls to make paninis with
2) The Sandwich bar (mocon)
3) the fresh bread
4) the big salad bar
5) the burrito bar
6) the OTHER sandwhich bar (campus centre)
7) the good tomato sauce...

the food is fucking disgusting. and usdan is an ugly big building that tries to look like the older buldings on campus by using the nice brickwork above the windows that look like rays of light. SADLY THIS SCHOOL HIRES RETARDS FOR ARCHITECTS! Look at Fauver... It's modeled after an old age home or something. And that thing in between 92 theatre and the chapel, is just horrendous.

One of the biggest problems with this (or any similar) poll is that because it determines whether or not you've voted already by your IP address (at least I'm pretty sure it does) and Clean Access Agent refreshes your IP each time you log on to it, it was completely possible to vote once for every Clean Access session you logged in to.

anonymous 10:46... what exactly did you want usdan to look like?

I think we're intelligent enough to conclude on our own that this poll is highly unscientific. Yet I believe it still proves a point.

And you can't ignore the comments.

By the way...

Summerfields keeps running out of to-go boxes. Someone should do something about that because it's frustrating for the workers and students alike. Probably more-so for the workers.

And I miss the ice cream.

I'm not the guy you're talking to but I was pretty happy with the setup as it was

Anonymous said...

you could try bringing your own to-go boxes...ya know, save the planet

At this point, I've stopped expecting wesleyan to do things well...i expect poor planning and disregard for sense. If i could quit the meal plan and cook (if i had a kitchen) I wouldn't even have to rely on this mess, and I would eat twice as good for half as much!

just more of the same, cynical as it may be.

some rich alumnus/alumnae should pay for the elevator shaft of the Zelnick Pavilion to be made of glass like the rest of the structure. that should make it at least a little more pleasing to the eye.

Anonymous said...

wait, you don't think if someone were willing to come up with the bucks, it should be made of BROWNSTONE?

Anonymous said...

....I kind of like Usdan.

Anonymous said...

I like it too!

it just takes time to build character, that's all

Anonymous said...

johnwesley, the problem with the the elevator shaft made of brownstone or any heavy material is that it is a third element that is approximately the same size as the two vestibules around the apse at the rear of the chapel---the three together look unbalanced. An elevator shaft of glass would help it recede into the background, restoring the balance of the two vestibules flanking the apse.

You and I apparently define "good" differently, anon-that's-right-above-me.

Bleakness breakdown:

-The old campus center wasn't enough to accommodate the student body very well. There were long lines and there wasnt really a whole lot of space. So when the university announced that it was making a new campus center, I didn't think it was thaaaat bad of an idea.

-We poured millions and millions of dollars into a building that didnt solve any of the problems that Davenport had (I guess the mail system is less hectic). There are fewer options for food, it's big without actually having that much to it, and it's sort of a drag, aesthetically. You could easily argue that it's worse than Davenport. And even if you don't agree that it's necessarily worse than Davenport, I think it would be pretty hard to argue that the change is worth millions and millions of dollars.

-And that's why I'm really upset.

No.

Bad pizza.

anon 3:59, at the risk of appearing needlessly patronizing, I must tell you that was the most astute piece of architectural criticism by a Wesleyan student I have heard in, um, quite some time.

After thinking it over, I would agree with you, but for the fact that I'm perhaps a little less put off by the possibilities of asymmetry than you. Nevertheless, I can appreciate your view on the subject.

Anonymous said...

john, asymmetry can be wonderful, especially if its well planned. i just think that the compact spot sandwiched by the 92 theater and the chapel should have elements that complement those two buildings. the gray elevator shaft detracts from the chapel.

joe siry, john paoletti, and elizabeth milroy are great at teaching people to look at art/architecture.

Well, to be honest, I'm just glad Bon Appetit makes laxative-free food, unlike our previous providers. :o

Every time you feel like it's not good enough, just say to yourself...

"hey, at least it's not prison food"

in fact, maybe that should be the new slogan! LOL

Anonymous said...

I LOLed, anon 7:51.

Anonymous said...

some rich alumnus/alumnae should pay to have the Zelnick Pavilion ripped down.

We never use it. And it's hideous. Let's be serious.

Anonymous said...

At least they don't spray carbs on the salad like Aramark did.

Anonymous said...

I support the use of that slogan, 7:51 :P

Anonymous said...

i like Zelnick! If any of you knew architecture, you'd realize that structures like Zelnick are GOOD- half-assed ones like Fauver are what's BAD.

Anonymous said...

Wow, you're right 1:36. I should appreciate it for the masterwork of architecture it is, instead of think of it as a waste of space because, um, all the space in it is wasted.

Seriously, it would look exactly the same if it didn't have doors, and I'm sure it would get just as much use. Would you still think it adds something to campus?

And now all of our Wesleyan stationary with college row on it is out of date now because of that exorbitant see-through porta-john.

Anonymous said...

it's supposed to function as a lobby for when you're lined up for an event. Are you saying people would rather wait out of doors? Or, are there just not enough events to justify the expense?

Anonymous said...

it's also used for receptions after events in the chapel, biology student lab presentations, and for small gatherings. underground also has bathrooms and rooms for general use. what space is it wasting? there would be grass there otherwise

Anonymous said...

and as everyone knows grass is evil and should be removed at any and all opputunities

Anonymous said...

Do you really think we need any "rooms for general use"?. I'm pretty sure we have enough empty buildings on campus already. Davenport is empty for now. MoCon is empty now. The old Physical Plant building is empty. The old squash courts have been unused for a while. Tons of space in all our tunnels is totally unused. The top floor of Usdan is a wasteland.

I understand that changes are underway and some of this will change eventually, but the entire campus layout now just reeks of poor planning.
