. . . yet increases your risk of alienating your family and dying horribly. I've seen it happen.

seriously, Xue, you want to put a link on that? where's the beef?

Anonymous said...

nevermind the health hazards it creates

also for breast cancer if you already have the gene that increases your risk. it suppresses the development of breast cancer or something.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobacco_smoking go down to the section entitled health benefits. if i'm supporting bogus factoids blame wikipedia. i'm not just pulling them out of my ass. (not xue commenting but rather 5:34). smoking is not a beneficial activity, but it is interesting that smoking is not 100% toxic. i feel like this post should be read as such, as an interesting post, not something urging people to take up smoking.

so if wikipedia told you to jump off a bridge...

Read the section. I've rarely seen a piece of a Wikipedia article with that many citations. Obviously you have to take Wikipedia with a grain of salt, but discounting it immediately is idiotic too.

I smoke rocks, and I'm doing fine!

It interferes with the developement of preeclampsia. That's probably why doctors tell pregnant women to smoke.

I'm pretty sure the risk of developing lung cancer for smokers greatly out weighs the risk of developing alzheimer's, Parkinson's or schizophrenia for non-smokers. This is a bs post, what exactly is your point? take it down.

Just because the risk of cancer far outweighs the benefits doesn't mean that it's not interesting that it does have those positive effects...

exactly. note that i said this is an INTERESTING POST, not a reason to smoke. 5:34, once again.

I have to say, if Wikipedia told me to jump off a bridge, I just might do it. I can't say that about a whole lot of authorities...

really, please be nice to xue, she was just studying for neuropharmacology (ns&b 324) and the citation is most likely from molecular neuropharmacology by nestler, hyman, and malenka. if i find the citation i will defintitely post it so everyone will leave the poor girl alone.

did you read that article in the nytimes this summer about corporations editing wikipedia? like seaworld edited out the part in the wikipedia entry about how they mistreat orca whales? yup.

Anonymous said...

Yeah but I heard that editing job was orcastrated by the whales themselves.
