Fox News (In a Sad Attempt) Tries to Burn Obama

In the latest Fox News report, it tried to embarrass Obama for saying "Wellesley-an" in his commencement speech today. They seem to acknowledge it was a joke, and they also add that Senior Class President Rashida Richardson made the same joke in her speech. However, they are pissed that it wasn't caught on tape (except by our own staff member, Beau "Spazeboy" Anderson), and seem to forget that they actually made the mistake of getting us confused with Hilary Clinton's alma matter, Wellesley.

Viewers could be forgiven for thinking it was a verbal gaffe as Obama dead-panned the remark. The crowd laughed, not surprisingly ,since the college’s own student body president accidentally referred to it as “Wellesley” in the remarks that immediately preceded Obama’s speech.

wow these people are dumb

Rashida definitely did it on purpose and she's also senior class president, not student body president.

Purpose or not, joke or not, we have it on video (6:10 or so) as well at ConservaCity

6:00: that's what I wrote. Don't be so quick to criticize.

I did get Rashida's speech on tape. I have no plans to post it to YouTube.

That may be for the best.

I think it was pretty clearly a misspeak. Which is very ironic, but there is it. Certainly Obama knows that Wellesley and Wes are two different schools... but I was there and it really, really didn't sound like he was making a joke.

^^^^^^^ it was without a doubt a joke. i was sitting extremely close and it was very clear it was a joke. he's too eloquent of a speaker and too intelligent of a person in general to just happen to mispronounce the name of a place he was talking at.

Are you guys stupid? The moment he said wellesley-an he looked up with a smile to the crowd. It was definitely a joke.

spazeboy: good call

9:57 says a joke for sure but then goes absurd on us with an appeal to Obama's eloquence and intelligence as if the dude couldn't have a brain fart. Also, why did the Obama campaign cut the portion in question from the official Obama video on You Tube?

Anonymous said...

steadyjohn: because it was an inside joke and likely to be misinterpreted by people outside wesleyan. as it was.

seriously, look at his face after he says it, he smiles because he was joking.

duhhhhhh

okay first - it was without any doubt a joke
second - who takes fox seriously anyway?

people...alright already! it was a dig at faux news for reporting a few days ago that kennedy had asked obama to replace him at "wellesley", clinton's alma mater...it wasn't a "gaffe", it was intentional!

Anonymous said...

"who takes fox seriously anyway"? They pull in the highest number of viewers for a reason!

Ha ha, he also didn't know he was in "Sunrise" FL;, twice called it "Sunshine". "Good Morning Sunshine!"
OK, I'm just having a little fun; I've already conceeded the point that yesterday's blurb was a joke. " This video pretty well settles the matter."

your an idiot 11:10

fuck fox news.

Isn't Obama the same guy who mispronounced Massachusetts as "Massatoosits" in the last debate?

Twice?

I'm not so sure it was intentional.

Any of you who think this is a gaffe obviously did not go to a school in the Northeast.
As a Williams grad, part of the Little 3 with Wesleyan and Amherst we always called them Wellesleyan even 35 years ago...all in good fun as Barack did....
Wesleyan is a superb school as is Wellesley - alma mater of Mrs. Clinton....but we always had fun with the name....

As a more recent Williams grad, I've never heard Wes called Wellesleyan. Probably because, after Williams went co-ed, people started to realize how f-ing stupid that nickname is. At least that's my hope.
