Sterile no more!

It looks like Usdan--at least the first floor--is getting a much-needed paint job. Here's the view of the first floor computer area as of about 4:30 this afternoon:

Newly painted side on the right, obviously. Looks pretty similar to the yellow in Fauver. It'll be interesting to see how much they paint; it looked like they were working on one of the meeting rooms, too, though I'm not sure whether it was being painted the same color.

@12:50: Aren't we all?

Take a look at Williams' student center. Note that it cost about half as much as Usdan. Note also how it actually reduces its environmental footprint, instead of having lights that stay on all night and AutoFlush toilets that use God knows how much water. I hope they get a little more bang for their buck with the new science center, but considering there's a chart on Blackboard of all the corners they're cutting to lower the price tag by $60 million, don't bet on it...

I actually like Usdan. Yeah, it's got problems, but it's not so bad. I do wish they'd turn of the lights at night, though.

To be fair, some of the lights have to stay on at night for emergency egress purposes (per fire codes)--the lights in the stairwells and between the double doors at the entrances come to mind. The question is what constitutes a "means of egress"...I can safely say, though, that the (incandescent) lights that illuminate the display cases do not need to be on 24/7.

On a related note, I've found what I think are two major fire code violations in the Usdan/Fayerweather complex. Perhaps the problems will be solved for us.
