Photoshoppin' fo' sho

It's been nearly two years since we blessed Wesleying with its
very first masthead, and we thought it could use a little revamp.

You may also have noticed that our favorites icon (that little picture you see in your location bar and bookmarks menu) is back.

Web 2.0 cliche

I'd get rid of the gray underline. It looks kind of like a glitch.

the wesleyan shield really blows.
we should come up with a new one.

ugly, sorry!

just out of curiosity, why was the S of send and the W of wesleying (just in the email) made a larger font size and nothing else?? no criticism intended, just curious

9:15 - when you use the font "small caps" and capitalize the first letters, they look like bigger caps.

I prefer the old one. Please reconsider the grey line.

I think the wesleyan shield is pretty shnazzy...

whats wrong with it?

I think that its great and that you guys are great! keep up the great stuff!

Grey lines are my favorite, always have been.

...Cause this is thriller...

lulz. i LOVE how some anon commenters think that anyone and everyone should exercise editorial control over this blog. let them do their thing. its a great service and most students, including this one, apreciate it. including the new design.

The old one was classier, I'm afraid.

Anonymous said...

I completely disagree, 10:17.

The old one was more compositionally balanced. I agree that the designer should reconsider the gray line.

9:15 - What is wrong with engaging in constructive design critique in a public forum? Sharing an opinion about the new graphic doesn't imply an under-appreciation of Wesleying.

And by 9:15 I mean 9:57.

9:57,

I feel the same way about a lot of the comments that pop up on the blog. But this is something different cause it's about a design issue rather than telling how the contributors should contribute, and it doesn't feel like any of these commenters are really intending that effect of I-DEMAND-THAT-WESLEYING-DOES-WHAT-I-THINK/SAY ABOUT X.

the old one had more flair

This one looks really, really flat by comparison. It also looks kind of... unbalanced. Like an upside-down pyramid.

Not much of a fan.

what's MEZREAINC and why did you write it under Wesleying

Anonymous said...

old one was FAR SUPERIOR.. change it back please

Anonymous said...

i had to go back and forth from the old one to the new one about 5 times before i noticed the difference.

the gray line looks like a glitch

gonna go ahead and say the masthead is creeping towards projectionist's –

http://project.ioni.st/

– which is another awesome blog (or tumble log, rather), so I'm not too upset about it

also, its a pretty minimal change, nothing to get up-in-arms about. Still using wes's annoying typeface (trajan).

one last thought: since it seems that there is a lot of interest in this design crit, maybe its worth opening this up and asking for new masthead submissions. a competition perhaps? voting (or maybe not voting, most people don't have good sense for design)

just a though.

There is no way I would have noticed a difference until you said something.

The new logo loads funny. I think you saved the image as progressive loading, or something. At least on Safari, it begins loading with a bunch of blue or black lines. Resave it without progressive loading or as PNG.
