For once, I'm actually impressed by Bush

President Bush's quick reaction time and skillful ducking kept him from getting hit after Iraqi journalist Muntadar al-Zeidi launched both his shoes right at the president's face, while yelling, "This is a farewell kiss, dog!" Bush's response? A classy, "All I can report is it is a size 10."

Good work, Bush. I'm actually proud of you, for once.

@ 4:29:
because it's funny. and because it's finals week so we need a little entertainment. lighten up.

Did Bush respond in Arabic? I hope that the would-be assassin doesn't suffer too much, that took a lot of courage.

Who throws their shoe? I mean honestly? That REALLY hurt!

4;29 you trolly you

4:29-- Lighten the fuck up. Really.

yo, secret service took like 4 seconds to do anything, then they just swarmed the place and did jack shit, it took them 10 seconds just to reach the prez, i thought these guys were the best.

did he really say the size 10 part? i couldnt hear it. respect for the iraqi journalist.

5:28 - Really? I can in no way support most, if any, of the decisions Bush has made during his presidency but at this point shitting on him is like beating a dead horse.

I too am not a fan of Bush but he did do more to try to help AIDS victims in Africa than any leader in the world (or all UN efforts combined). So that, ducking a shoe, holding the country together for the first month or so after 9-11 and making Mexican food a staple vs everything else he did = only slightly better than Harding, Pierce and Carter at the bottom of the presidential pantheon.

As an international student (Indonesia) I have no love for Bush, but if in fact Iraq does become a sustainable democracy in a part of the world that is almost overwhelmingly ruled by despots, then his role in history will have to be reassessed and probably adjusted upward. I know many here would not like that, but right now your country's war with Iraq has finally stabilized and could quite rightly be characterized a victory on most levels (Saddam gone, democracy established where none had ever been before). Of course, if the country descends into civil war or an Iranian satellite then he becomes even worse in history's eyes.

First of all 6:38, there is no reason to believe that anything approaching a "sustainable democracy" is going to take hold in Iraq-Read Nir Rosen, he knows his shit.
And 6:34, let's leave Franklin Pierce the fuck out of this

I'm not really feeling the slow response from the Secret Service Agents. I'm demanding a few refresher courses before Obama's Inauguration.

How has Bush not died yet? He was elected in a zero year!

6:34 - I dont think mandating abstinence-only education helps AIDS victims very much...

7:40 - you can only see the agents at the front of the room. by the time you see them get to the back of the room, where the shoe-thrower is, you can tell from their faces and body language that the agents in the back of the room already have him on the ground.

hey 6:34, wasn't everything carter said and thought almost entirely right in retrospect?

only decent man to ever be president, and look at the way the political class treats him now.

Anonymous said...

7:58, i totally know what you mean! there's not that much time left, either. nor was he shot at, like reagan.

JIMMY CARTER FOREVER!

haha nir rosen sucks.

12:19- Explain yourself! Lest I challenge you to a duel over fair Nir's honor!

i found this clip pretty funny (bush's ninja duck) but impressed? please. if you think that dodging a shoe thrown at your head by a victim of an imperialist occupation is impressive, you need a serious readjustment of your standards.

Anonymous said...

Well my standards for Bush were already extremely low 12:36 am, so the fact that he was able to duck a shoe was impressive to me.

@Saul:
Also, if you consider that they probably searched everyone for weapons and such before they entered the room, chances are that they realized that Bush wasn't in any serious danger. Bush himself is actually smiling before he ducks the second shoe

Saul said...

1:05, true. I watched it again - he actually gets tackled to the ground right as the second shoe leaves his hand. Maybe the NFL will recruit him after Obama closes down Gitmo.

"Proud" of Bush? Why would someone throw shoes? Do a little research before you post! In some part of the world shoes are the ultimate sign of disrespect. To have a ring of shoes tied around ones neck is the ultimate disgrace.

Your "pride" is part of the classic American impulse to forgive our leaders as their tenures wrap up, and it's very disappointing. Next time you feel like giving Bush a high five think about sheer number of deaths that are a direct result of his decisions (about 3000-some US troops, probably more than 10000 Iraqis, that doesn't even start with Afghanistan). He's a criminal.

Oh my. The "ultimate sign of disrespect".

nice karma missle

Kinda wanted to see them hit him in the face. Gotta hand it to him, he's got a quick (lame) duck.

Anonymous said...

guess its good that all the drinking and cocaine use (that ended in his late 30's) didnt affect GW's motor skills too adversely.

Anonymous said...

maybe the curse was broken with reagan? but really, to leave bush of all presidents to be the first 0-year president to not fall victim to some deadly phenomenon or assassination (or at least an attempt) is a little ironic.

not that i would wish death upon anyone, but history is history, and curses are curses... (the cubs still haven't won the world series)

Anonymous said...

more impressed that he has reaction time than proud, I'd say. Maybe that's where all his brain power went.

Beau said...

I'll be impressed with Bush if he does his damndest to make sure that this guy isn't tortured and killed for throwing a couple of shoes.
