jean is so cool!!!!

And Jean will learn about e coli very very soon...

Geez guess this proves you can get a degree from here without being very smart.

I thought it was surprisingly wise and articulate, actually. How would she get E. Coli? She only eats packaged foods, which means they don't touch the ground/other things. (The bug guy, on the other hand...)

She's cute!

all the bugs I've eaten tasted like granola

Wesleyan is "reeeally wealthy!"

When did Tyra Banks get a TV show?

Anonymous said...

scabs -- scabs from their *body*

Anonymous said...

um, you do know that she actually is ridiculous. Maybe not the same as eating toilet paper or scabs, but this is fucking gross.

I am very curious about 5:25, for whom this is the first notice that you can graduate from Wesleyan without being smart.

(though I don't think this is the case with Jean, just sayin')

sorry but it's gross. i'm all for eating leftover/thrown out food as it's not mixed in with regular old garbage (used tissues, nail clippings..). ew.

..... I think this is a kind of upsetting combination of Tyra being really offensive and Jean being mildly unhealthy and odd.

freegans are the shit.

if you think freeganism is gross, more food for Jean

Jean rocks!!

Anonymous said...

it must be easier in the cold weather because perishables outside are basically in a refrigerator/freezer

Anonymous said...

oh my god tyra is so dumb!

Anonymous said...

yeah jean!!!

Anonymous said...

ipods in dumpsters? what?? no.

but everything else she said - i respect that.

Anonymous said...

yeay Jean!! I knew the day would come when I could brag that I went to a dumpster diving workshop my freshman year lead by a freegan featured on the tyra banks show...

this is a movie Jean & some other folks made -- at one point they DO discover a (working) ipod in a dumpster.

you need to see how much stuff Wesleyan students throw out at the end of the year. i found a graphing calculator last year.

dumpstering food is totally legit. free food man!

especially stuff from trader joes and whole foods, free organic food!

Anonymous said...

jean's awesome.

so disappointing that freeganism would be mixed into a show on bug eating, but what do you expect with tyra of the smiling eyes.

I thought Bug-Eatin' Dave was pretty spot on too. But I don't like the way nuts taste

Anonymous said...

why is eating bugs so taboo

Anonymous said...

it's taboo because they're bugs.
i assume you mean, "why is it so wrong"

Anonymous said...

wow this bitch is crazy

12:42- tyra or jean? both, maybe?

Anonymous said...

doesn't everyone at wesleyan have to be on the meal plan? i bet this embarrassment to the school used her 1478 points like everyone else. however i heard that next year for only 8 points or one meal wesleyan is allowing students to dumpster dive in any of the on campus dumpsters (even the ones outside weshop and pi!)

Jean, I remember scoffing at you back when you were here. Now I realize how awesome it is that you do your own thing, despite the pressure to just follow everyone else. So what if it grosses people out. Good point about points 2:26 but still, rock on. Good for you.

i'd like to add that last year i dumpstered a brand new ps2, palm pilot, 2 pairs of new converses, and kenneth cole heels all from one house.
so remember to spend some time taking a walk down pine, fountain, and home at the end of senior week this year.

Anonymous said...

all 'tis true; i was there when jean found the ipod...

Anonymous said...

Jean, you're fantastic.

Anonymous said...

go jean!!! tyra is cray.

Anonymous said...

10:51, when you take things out of a person's house, that's called stealing, not dumpstering.

yeah, you really should see the stuff wes kids throw out at the end of the year...i actually found an ipod last year among other things

possessions don't really seem like they're in the same category as food. obviously scoring brand new merchandise, or even used furniture, is amazing. eating thrown-away cottage cheese- that shouldn't even have the same name.

I'm not going to hide behind some veil on anonymity.

I don't understand why anyone would say that eating bugs is weirder than freeganism. This guy makes an actual point: Bugs are nutritious and there are so many other cultures in this world who openly embrace bug-eating. It'd be a little odder (in my norm-influenced mind) for him to eat bugs that are living, but he prepares them... He even goes as far as to bake cookies! I'd sooner eat a cricket cookie than pineapples from the trash, but I'm glad Jean has ascended beyond our ridiculous American taboos.

In fact, I've always respected Jean for doing her own thing from the first time I saw her on campus. Fuck America's Next Top Model. She is the definition of fierce.

Anonymous said...

i didn't say eating bugs was *worse* than freeganism, but it is easy to make the argument that it is *weirder* in our culture. i applaud him for rising above the taboos, but you cannot pretend you don't understand why people think it's gross -- it's because most people in america think bugs are gross, for whatever reason.

Anonymous said...

the buy guy's argument was kind of dumb. obviously crickets take up less resources than cows, because they're smaller, but you also get much less meat than you get from cows, so they're not really a better choice. the only real way to get a better *proportion* of food vs resources-used is to go veggie.

jean is repulsive and so are all your self-righteous hippies that pretend to love her when you'd never do it yourselves.
