First Outing Club Meeting!!

The first meeting of the Wesleyan Outing Club is this Wednesday, Sept 10th, at 10pm, at Out House (132 High).

Reasons to come:
1. Announcements of super sweet outings that are happening this weekend (beaches, mountains, orchards, cliff jumping! plus surprises.)
2. Plenty of ice cream and desserts. Contributions not necessary but welcomed.
3. We miss you. You miss us. The end.

Outings with the Wesleyan Outing Club

EPIC FOURSQUARE
Your favorite outing ever (EVER!) is back and better (SO MUCH BETTER!) than ever. Come to the Outhouse driveway at 3 on Friday for a fun game, or one so vicious that your sixth-grade self would have cowered under the monkey bars. There might even be lemonade and cookies afterward.

PADDLE AT DUSK
Unwind with a leisurely paddle at Miller’s Pond this Friday April 25th. We will be meeting at Outhouse at 5pm and will take out kayaks and canoes. No experience necessary and please bring a car if you have one. RSVP to eogata@wes.

RUN TO WADSWORTH
Out and back run to Wadsworth Falls State Park - possibility for swimming or wading About 4 miles round trip, though people could turn back whenever. Definitely conversational pace. Meet at Freeman Saturday April 26^th at 10am. Email akomor@wes with questions.

EARLY MORNING DIP
Join Oriana and Eleni for an early bird swim special at MILLER'S POND! They will be leaving Outhouse at 7:45 am sharp on Monday April 28th for a quick dip in the pond (waters already tested and safety approved). Returning to campus at nine so that those with classes can go, those without can have a delightful post-swim breakfast at O'Rourke's. Email oriana.korol@gmail with questions. SPRING CLEANING
What: Plants? Trees? Connecticut Forests?
When: Thursday, May 8th, 1 - 4pm
Where: The CFPA (Conn. Forest and Park Ass.)
Why: Refreshments included!
AND BECAUSE
The Connecticut Forest and Park Association is the organization behind most of Connecticut's forests and parks (imagine that!). The roots between the Wesleyan Outing Club and the CFPA run deep (a member of our club blazing many of their trails at one point) but recently the leaves have fallen from our relationship. They need some spring cleaning of the land around their headquarters and would like this event to fertilize a renewed partnership. The board member who works the gardens is a retired professor from Connecticut College; she will be pointing out and explaining all the plants and trees she has planted. We will also have the chance to browse the indoors of their headquarters, getting ideas for future projects. Please respond by email if you are interested oriana.korol@gmail. We will meet at Outhouse at 12:45 on Thursday, May 8th, one extra car will be needed.

We know you are probably swamped with midterms and papers so we scheduled a hike at a time you all can make it! 

O'ROURKE'S AND AN ALPINE START (does it get any better?!)

Shake off those midterm blues with an alpine start to Miller's Pond! This Thursday, march 6, get up before the sun and meet us at outhouse (132 high st.) at 5:45 AM for the hike. If you're feeling really peppy, meet us at 5Am, same place, to go get pancakes and gees beforehand at O'Rourke's. Email ehealey@wes if you want to come, and please mention if you'll have access to a car. 

Also, good luck to the spring break trip to their lovely cabin in New Hampshire! Stay warm. And good luck to the rest of you on your own adventures over break!

Great Hill Hike

Come for a hike up Great Hill on Saturday. It's 5ish miles, and we will explore some small caves and possibly old cobalt mines...we'll leave from Outhouse at noon. Email Maddie (mthomson@wes) if you want to come, and if you can bring a car. It will be Great!


Biking Round Middletown

Join us for a scenic road bike trip this Saturday! Come to Outhouse at 10:00am and expect to be riding for 3-4 hours. Pack a lunch, and remember to bring water! A road bike is preferred, but not necessary - the trip will be around 18 miles. Email ilevy@wes if interested or if you have any questions.

The climbing wall in the freeman athletic center is open for the semester. There's no equipment or experience necessary, just come on down for a good time. The wall will be open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 5-8:30 for the rest of the semester. If you've got any questions just email Reid (rhigginson@wes).

Outing Club updates

Gear Donations
The Outing Club needs your help! If you have been cleaning out your attic/ basement/ closet/ room and found any gear you no longer use-- Remember, nothing is too old or decrepit for the Outing Club-- then bring it back to campus for them (to 132 High Street). In exchange they will bake you cookies. Really tasty ones. Examples of things they want are -

• Snowshoes
• Cross country skis and boots
• Hiking boots
• Frame packs
• Water bottles
• Rollerblades
• Sleeping bags
• Stuff sacks
• Tents
• Stoves
• Outdoor clothing (Rain pants, warm non-cotton layers, etc. or really anything that seems vaguely outdoor related.)

Cross Country Ski Marathon
If you are interested in a weekend of skiing and fun February 10-11th, then come to Outhouse (132 High Street) Thursday, January 25th, at 5 pm. There they'll go over any questions as well as how to sign up. Anyone who is interested at all should come to the meeting. Participation will be limited if they can't find another car to come, so remember if you are willing to drive, the WSA will compensate you for gas and depreciation on your car.

Outings this week

THURSDAY AFTERNOON RIDE
Come along for a sweet little spin along the river to the old power plant. Most of the ride is on this nice closed road by the water, and it's particularly gorgeous now that the leaves are turning. If you're looking to build your repetoire of local rides, this is good one to learn. We'll leave from Outhouse at 4 pm on Thursday and will return by 6 at the latest - bring your fine self and a bike in decent working order. Rsvp to ecpalmer(at)wesleyan.edu if you want to come.

CANOE AT MILLERS
Last weekend was a washout, so we're going to give it another shot. Get your week started on the right foot with a morning on the water at Millers. We can paddle around, swim, hang out, and just enjoy the fall. No experience needed. Meet at Outhouse at 11 on Sunday, with a towel and maybe a little food to picnic with. We also need some cars to make this happen. Email jehrenhalt(at)wesleyan.edu to rsvp.

BACKPACKING OVER FALL BREAK
We're still looking for one more person with a car to join our trip. We'll be in the wilderness for three days and two nights, hiking through the White Mountains in New Hampshire. If you're interested please email nlichten(at)wesleyan.edu or eogata(at)wesleyan.edu with questions.

MOVE ON UP
The climbing wall at Freeman is open and ready to rock! Come down to the athletic center and do some sweet rockclimbing. No experience, money or equipment necessary. It is open Mon. 5-8:30 Tues. 6:30-8:30 and Wed. 5-8:30. Just drop in, or if you have any questions send rhigginson(at)wesleyan.edu an e-mail.

Bring your friends, family, aunts and uncles this Saturday at 4pm to Outhouse for an amazing, spectacular, razzle-dazzle FESTIVAL to welcome the coming Fall season. Food, fun and amazing live music. There will be apple bobbing, pumpkin carving, potato sack races, a petting zoo, gourd painting and more! Listen to The Hillpeople and their amazing bluegrass/folk/country tunes. FALL BREAK BACKPACKING MEETING
Fall break is coming up, so we're planning a two night backpacking trip to New Hampshire's White Mountains. Stop by Outhouse Friday at 6:45 to get more info and talk over plans. Email nlichten(at)wesleyan.edu if you are interested in the trip and/or plan to be at the meeting.

CLIMBING! CLIMBING! AND YET MORE CLIMBING!
There's some talk around Outhouse about organizing a fall break climbing trip, as well as just having more climbing trips in general. In order to get things moving in this direction, we're hosting a meeting Wednesday night at ten, so climbers can get together, float some ideas, and maybe organize an outing or two. There'll be ice cream. If you're a climber, you should come and put in your two cents. And in the here and now....

Want to do some rock climbing? The Wesleyan Mountaineering Club will be leading a day trip to the wonderful Ragged Mountain this Saturday (Oct. 30). It is directed towards those with little to no experience but all are welcome. Space may be limited, so email rhigginson(at)wesleyan.edu as quick as you can to get a spot.

Also, next week (Oct. 2 and on) the rock wall at Freeman will open for operation. The wall will be open Monday-Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 in the PM. It will continue at these hours and possibly more for the rest of the semester. No experience or equipment necessary. Just come check it out or email rhigginson(at)wesleyan.edu if you have any questions.

Yes, this Saturday night at 10pm, it's the return of the Outhouse classic. Come on over to dance to bluegrass in the living room, play buffalo in the kitchen, and, you know, just live the good life. Ideally you'll be dressed as a farmer, but cowboys/girls/people, lumberjacks, and their assorted country brethren are also welcome. Get psyched.
