THE CHAMPIONS

The last human has been killed. ZOMBIES WIN!!

Congrats to Chris Foster '09, the last human to be taken down. What's truly remarkable is that Chris spent the entirety of the game without a weapon. No socks, no marshmallows, no guns. At all. The guy's in cross country, he can do what he wants. Also, shout-out to Drake Morgan '07, who, as the second-to-last human standing and possibly the best armed of anyone, was finally overtaken by around 15 of the undead outside of Judd tonight. God rest ye merry gentlemen.

Celebratory Zombie song: The Zombies - This Will Be Our Year

Thanks to everyone who played! There is a second game in the works for the Spring semester, with a complete retooling of the rules. If you want a piece of the action, join the facebook group Zombies vs Humans (Spring '07), and I'll see you on the other side!

Zombie Entertainment For the Zombie in your Life

Zombies, Zombies Everywhere! We're now in the last few days that will determine who will win in the post-apocalyptic showdown between Zombies and Humans.

To celebrate the last few days of classes and the winding down of Z vs. H, here's a list of Zombie movies you may be interested in.

Just a head's up, 2007 is the YEAR OF THE ZOMBIE. Upcoming Zombie flicks include:

All leading up to 2008's World War Z, based on Max Brooks' recent book, also named World War Z. (For those humans who remain, he also wrote a book called The Zombie Survival Guide.)

Zombies vs. Humans - Day 7

10 humans, 21 zombies. The situation grows dire for both teams.

"The Zombie Wars" - Day 7

The zombies grow fewer now and the hordes have shrunk to a few desperate, starving stragglers. The cold weather may be to thank, the dead flesh produces no heat and can hardly move when temperatures drop below freezing. My weapons are scratched and battered but well-maintained, and I am tired but happy to be alive.

This place is a wasteland, an aftermath of civilization. Bodies still move in shambling steps, but no life shines in their dead eyes. Jaws slacken, but nothing recognizable as speech issues forth, only unsettling gibberish. The surviors are very few in number, and, in time, each of us will fall. Our only hope of reclaiming this planet is to reproduce, but I have encountered no women here who have not yet contracted the disease or lost their sanity. It appears that I must seek breeding stock elsewhere.

In retrospect it seems that little has changed. Kidding, kidding! Stay safe, survivors, it's almost over.

Anti-Zombie Hate-Chalkings

Zombie Jackie Chapman '08 writes in to tell us she's not at all pleased with the emerging trend of anti-Zombeeism (Yeah, that's how I choose to spell it. Go to hell). She sends us this picture chalked outside her low-rise today:

She has her suspicions that this cryptic post may have something to do with her tagging of one human's roommate. His anguish at the loss of his comrades to the zombies is well documented:

Day 6: There's not very many of us left. I'm the only member of the Braintrust left. Of the 3 of us, two were devoured by a clever quiet zombie this afternoon. I managed to stun her, but only after she turned my two comrades. That makes 6 of us down: 4 are members of the horde, one has evacuated, and the last has put himself to rest... permanently. Why I am left I do not know, but I can slowly feel my sanity slipping away... I can hear them clawing at my door, groaning in the rooms of my very suite... I will fight these bastards to the very end, but should I not last much longer, let this be my final testament to the will of mankind to survive.

- Alex Dezieck, Chapter 6: "The Zombie Wars"
The Zombies are people, too, Dezieck. Albeit the living undead people, but people, too.

Note: Dezieck as of 1am today is now a zombie.

Dear Zombies:

The Wesleyan Department of Neuroscience & Behavior asks,

"Want brains with that?"

From The Wesleyan Connection.

Stalkerfest

The remaining zombies have formed The Brainlust against The Braintrust, harvesting Facebook's bounty of creepitude by posting the dorm room addresses of the last 24 humans.

24 humans, 48 hours. Oh man.

Stuff about our Argus Feature

We were in the Argus yesterday. Woot.

You might have just discovered this page because of the Argus and finally figured out who the fuck the Zombies are.

Or you might have been reading it for a while and learned some new stuff about us from the article.

Awesome.

Anyway, about the article. Like we said, we are open to anyone who wants to be a contributor. If you are interested in it, shoot an email to either myself (hwood@wes), Xue (xsun@wes) or our Wesleying account at Wesleying@gmail.com. We don't expect the world from you, just that you post something a couple times a month. We try not to edit the content of anyone's posts, just the formatting.

Also, apparently, we want a domain name? I, er, didn't know we did but apparently if it's in print it must be true! I looked into it, a domain name would cost $7.99. Is $7.99 worth it to drop the .blogspot from your daily routine? (If you'd just BOOKMARK US this you wouldn't even NEED to know the address).

Send me a quarter and a small note saying "YES, I DEMAND YOU GET A .COM ADDRESS, HOLLY!" to my mailbox 6135. I will then use the quarters to buy a domain site.

Please don't tell us to buy it ourselves. Obviously, we could, but that's not the point of this exercise. The point is for me to walk out of the campus center with a ridiculous amount of envelopes filled with one quarter each. Any extra money we get we will use to buy a prize for our next ridiculous game/contest. (Ha, like there would be any extra money.)

I will keep track of how many quarters I get with a fund thermometer. I've always wanted to keep track of something with a thermometer.

So yeah, send one quarter to me, Holly, at box #6135. When we get 32 quarters, we will buy a domain name.

P.S. Did you know you can send things to other people at the school through their campus mailbox? In the mailroom there is a box for Campus-Only mail where you write their name and their box number. (You'd be surprised how many people don't know this.)

Look how far we've come now, Baby

P.S. Zombies vs. Humans is the Courant's top emailed article. Yeah, CT.

Zombies vs. Humans: Quick bits

Human Survival Tips:

The most dangerous places to be are Mocon around meals and the Campus Center nearly all of the time--Mocon especially, since there's only one exit. Try to exit with at least one person who has access to the Nics and bolt for Nic 7.

Nerf guns are snazzy, but seem to be not as effective as marshmallows in the hands of people who don't know how to use them.

Mini-marshmallows have more spread and less range; Regular marshmallows have more range and less spread. Always throw more than one at a time, and keep them in your palms as you walk.

There have been a few bike zombie sightings. Remember that they're faster in a straight line but don't handle turns as well. Stun them from the side if you can, but otherwise head for trees, the nearest building, or (safely) cross the road if you see them coming. Hint: The light outside of Psi U almost always changes color immediately when you hit the "cross" button.

If you're running from many zombies coming from different directions, instead of sprinting as fast as you can, try directly charging one zombie at a time and stunning them individually.

Try not to be outside during peak class change times. Go early or late. If you can, take less-popular routes, and stay off the walkways.

Hartford Courant story

Here's the Hartford Courant story on Zombies vs. Humans. Shout-out to Dave "More power to you" Pesci!

Zombies vs. Humans: Day 1

Well, it's the end of the inaugural day of Zombies vs. Humans, and the Humans got pwn3d. Adam Schlesinger '10 has proven especially deadly with, at last count, 15 zombifications-- Watch out for this one, kids.

Julie says:

I was ambushed by six of them today but luckily I shot all those motherfuckers. They're hiding in trees and on top of roofs!
Uhhhh. Scary.

Additionally, there were a reporter and a photographer from the Hartford Courant tracking down players, interviewing them and taking their pictures. The story is slated to run tomorrow (Thursday), so keep your eye out for it!

Reminders:
  • The campus center is a safe zone. All of it.
  • Post your status on the discussion board, not on the wall; Posts run off the main page quickly, which makes it really hard to keep track of.
  • If you know someone who's still in the group but isn't playing, confirm with them and then message me about it so we can mark them as dead.
  • Be sure to double-check the front page updates to make sure your name is in the right place (and not multiple places)!
  • If you try to crunch the raw numbers, they won't work out because there are a few players not on facebook and I still don't know who "laura" is. Help?
Finally, a tip: If you're using marshmallows, get the mini ones and throw a handful at once. Or, hell, a handful of the BIG ones. Consider it birdshot, but for the undead.

See comments for today's humans/zombies/dead rundown.

Zombies vs. Humans

The first draft of Wesleyan's rules for Zombies vs. Humans are out!

Zombies vs. Humans

Overview:
There are two teams, the Humans and the Zombies. At the beginning of the game everyone is a member of the Human team with the exception of two people chosen as the Original Zombies whose identities remain secret. These people tag human players, turning them into Zombies as well, who in turn must find more humans to eat.

The Zombie team wins when it has consumed the entirety of the Human team.
The Human team wins if the Zombie team starves to death; a zombie starves to death 48 hours after its last tag. Death by starvation permanently removes you from the game. (You can still play next year.)

If you’re with a group of friends and you get eaten, you have to walk away from them and not go after any of them for 5 minutes. You can, however, find another group of humans and proceed to munch on them.

Weapons:
The Humans are armed with nerf guns, rubber band guns, marshmallows, or balled-up socks, which can stun a Zombie for 15 minutes, rendering hir harmless.

Who’s playing?:
Humans must wear a standard issue bandana, tied around the right upper arm, between elbow and shoulder. Zombies must wear a bandana tied around their heads as a headband. The bandana must be prominently displayed-outside of the coat/hat/whatever. As somebody noted, sometimes people wear bandanas at this school without playing the zombie game. Therefore, be careful. However (and this should go without saying), don’t be a jackass and say you’re not playing when you’re just trying to avoid being tagged.

Keeping track:
Each party must report the kill by either contacting Nick Marshall (nmarshall(at)wesleyan.edu) or, preferably, posting in the Facebook group’s thread “Status”. If a zombie reports the kill without confirmation from a human within 48 hours, we’ll hunt you down. After this, both players will be taken out of the game. (We won’t, however, kick someone instantaneously if it’s a time-delay issue. It’ll only be a problem if one party claims to have zombified another, and the other fails to report it. In that case, not knowing who to believe and not wanting to play favorites, both people will be asked to leave the game.)

Updates:
Daily updates will be posted to Wesleying as well as the Recent News box on the Facebook group.

Picking the Original Zombie(s):
We will start by picking two zombies: Nick will pick one, and Xue will pick the other. We won’t tell each other who we picked. The zombie will be allowed to go incognito until we have 15 confirmed reports of zombification (from either source.) Then, both zombies will have to reveal themselves and wear their bandanas.

Safezones/Killzones:
Campus is divided into "safezones" and "killzones." Humans may take refuge in safezones and can only be eaten/killed in a killzone. Humans can shoot zombies from within a safe zone but keep in mind that if, for instance, your arm leaves the confines of a safezone, you can be tagged on that arm. Remember that zombies can lurk right outside the safezones, waiting for you to exit. Zombies can also enter safezones, but they can’t bite while inside.
Also, please don't shoot at Zombies when they're in safezones--That's just annoying.

Safezones
  • Any dining hall(including inside Davenport, even the post office)
  • Any library (including computer labs)
  • Freeman
  • Fisk/Exley/Judd/Any of the other academic buildings
  • Dorms and houses of non-zombies (but see below)
  • If you’re an upperclassman and live in a house/apartment with somebody else who is playing, then the entire structure is safe until one of you becomes a zombie. After that, your individual room is safe. If you have a roommate and ze becomes a zombie, you’re basically fucked. Find a couch to sleep on.
  • Anywhere you absolutely have to be for academic purposes
  • Weshop is also off limits, although the hallway right outside of it is not
Killzones
  • Basically: If you’re outside, you aren’t safe, unless you’re practicing for an in-season team sport.
  • The hallways of dormitories/lounges/the sidewalks and roads outside houses
  • Outside of any of the abovementioned safezones. If you’re smoking outside Olin, you can be eaten. Outside of Davenport’s also not the best place to eat during the game.
  • Balconies, overhangs of buildings,
  • Anywhere you’re not specifically required to be for an academic or athletic reason.
Common sense:
Don’t hurt anybody. Be careful around stairwells. If someone is, say, studying, and asks you to take it elsewhere, apologize and desist.

Suggestions? Discuss it at the group. Again, you have until the 22nd to sign up, and the game begins at 8a.m. on November 29th!

ZOMBIES VS HUMANS update!

The start date for Zombies vs. Humans has been set for Wednesday, November 29th--The Wednesday after we get back from Thanksgiving break.

Sign up for the game by joining the facebook group. Once the game begins, we will be updating the status of players daily via group announcements as well as on Wesleying.

The cutoff date for signing up is Wednesday, November 22nd, a week before the game starts. After this date, the facebook group will be closed and no new members will be allowed to join. This is so we can produce a roster of active players to keep track of everyone in the game.

We will also be posting Wesleyan-specific rule clarifications as to the safezones and killzones.

In the meantime, procure a bandana! If you're feeling extra snazzy, buy a nerf gun, too, but you can also just use socks or marshmallows from Weshop.
