Alum in Sundance

Ray Tintori '06's senior film project, Death to the Tinman, will be judged at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival.

"I made this movie for school. I wasn't thinking so much for this," Ray Tintori said in an interview from Park City, Utah. "I submitted it anyway. It's like buying a lottery ticket; you know, why not?

"I was really shocked I got accepted," Tintori continued. "Some people turned in way more professional, way more expensive films, with big production values and big stars. I don't know why I got chosen. I'm just glad I did."

New MGMT video-thing: "Electric Feel"

Ray Tintori '06 wants you to know about the new music video he directed for one of Wesleyan's favorite bands, MGMT:

It's an interactive music video game. There's a streaming thing that plays automatically on the website, but that's just a preview that shows one way the video could turn out. Mathematically there are 4,290,888 ways it can turn out. [...] The footage is a combination of stuff I've shot over the last 8 months of MGMT recording the album with Dave Fridmann up at Tarbox, doing a photoshoot in Montauk, playing a live show at Eclectic, as well as staged scenes on the beach and in front of greenscreens. It's a big experiment.
Ray recommends you download the QuickTime version to get the full experience.

Wes on Obama's Inauguration

In our post-inauguration excitement last month, we somehow managed to overlook every major piece of Wesleyan-related news about the inauguration in our inbox. Here's a brief recap of what would have been timely a month ago, various Wes people's perspectives on the inauguration in various media sources:

  • Eleanor Celeste '10 (center) was featured in an NY Times article about how her family, which was politically divided during the campaign trail, came to embrace Barack Obama and traveled to Washington, D.C., for the inauguration.
  • President Roth commented on Obama's inauguration speech in Politico, which is owned by Robert Allbritton '92:
"My first reaction is to marvel at how this candidate of change, of ‘Yes, we can’ spent considerable rhetorical force on tying his work back to the core values of American history,” wrote historian Michael Roth, president of Wesleyan University in Connecticut.
  • British style magazine Dazed and Confused ran a two-page spread in its February issue entitled "Two Young Creatives Remember the Campaign Trail," containing a long interview with Ben Rowland and Ray Tintori '06 about the youth perspective on the election, and featuring Rowland's photos taken on the campaign trail:

The Killers: "Spaceman"

Fresh off the success of his videos for MGMT, Saul Williams, and the Cool Kids, Ray Tintori '06 got a huge budget for directing the new Killers video, most of which probably went to the costume department:
