WestCo accepting applications for housing

Ivan Maulana '11 writes:

We would like to invite every rising sophomore cat to come apply to live in westco next year. it's not quite programme housing and not quite dormitory living but "community-based rocking". we could wax about the perks of living in westco, but winter it is too cold and the bed looks warm. anyhow, as we on this side of foss hill say, westco is the bestco. applications opened on friday and are due by the 29th (leap day). to access the application, go to My Student Portfolio>Student Life at Wesleyan>Room Selection. hurry and get on the westco train before it leaves and you're hanging on with your legs dragging over the rails.

if you want to live in westco, get ready for lots of these kind of messages (psuedohip, quirky phrasing for its own sake). every single listserv email becomes a chance to prove how cool you are.

This writing is so absurd. Just say what you mean and stop trying so hard!

regardless of ivan's weaknesses, westco is a really nice place to live- location, cafe, weshop, two-room doubles? yes please.

I second 12:39. I lived in Westco my sophomore year, it's really fantastically situated and you can choose how much of the pretentious crap and how much of the legitimately cool community activities you participate in.

ivan's weaknesses? what are you even talking about?

Haha every single thing like this I hear about living in Westco just makes me laugh and vomit even more...awful

okay this phrasing is neither "hip" nor "quirky." it's just sort of dumb. and not representative of westco as a whole.

If you live in westco, it's pretty much required that you don't mind

a) cigarette smoke
b) pot smoke
c) loudness from the cafe
d) loudness from your neighbors
e) loudness in the hallway
f) living around "eclectic-lite" freshmen

g) random people coming to your day literally every hour of every day asking you to give money to something
