Gender and transmen in NYT Magazine
Interesting article in the New York Times Magazine called "When Girls Will Be Boys". Carmen Melillo '09 points out that Wesleyan gets a mention, in the context of gender-neutral bathrooms and pronouns.

I don't know, I guess I have sympathy for these people, but the gender binary exists for a reason despite its social construction. if someone intends to subvert it, they should really learn to accept being relegated to the periphery.

anon 4:59, the reason that the gender binary exists is because it is socially constructed, because it is useful for us as capitalists to make binaries.
anyway. I wish more people would destabilize binaries and help make them a little less rigid for all of us.
what does the male/female binary have to do with capitalism? I'm sure it preceded the rise of capitalism as an economic and social force by MANY MANY MANYYYYYY years.
The gender binary is not a social construct! It's a survival strategy- our ancestors needed to know who they could reproduce with to continue our species. However, as we move beyond living simply to continue our species, it is appropriate for us to question and even begin to defy the binary.
amen 8:20 pm, people with ridiculously biased viewpoints like 12:15 am de-legitimize this debate for everyone.
