Summerfields to get better?
Jen Liebschutz '11, chair of the WSA's Finance and Facilities committee, sends in some info about upcoming dining changes. Most of them seem to relate to Summerfields:
Recently, we had our first Dining Committee with Bon Appetit Regional Manager Michael Strumph, Wesleyan administrators, union workers, and students and we focused on addressing concerns about Summerfields. While the changes seem far from perfect, props to Bon Appetit and the Dining Committee for making what seems to be an earnest effort to listen to students and meet student needs.
Here are some solutions we came up with:
Starting Monday, Summerfields will have a chef-determined special of the day for dinner Monday-Friday available as a meal "bundle". The chicken sandwich and grilled vegetable or portobello sandwich will also be added as meal bundles in addition to four they already have.
In the near future, Summerfields will have a "create-your-own" salad option where you can choose what toppings and protein you want on your salad. Bon Appetit has also promised to work on a method to improve how you know when your entree is ready, and they're also looking into adding sushi and other creative entrees to the menu. The Dining Committee will continue to meet and discuss dining issues and improvements, so if you have any further suggestions, ideas, or observations about any dining issues, please email me at jliebschutz@wes.
And props to students who have chimed in with their suggestions so far - let's keep on actually talking about how to make the improvements we need instead of just complaining.

summerfields SUCKS, glad to see the WSA doing something about it, just make sure these improvements are more than just talk
Why is sushi always treated as a bonus when they're trying to improve dining services? I don't even like the sushi here all that much. Just wondering about that...
speaking of the sushi, why don't they make actual raw fish sushi anymore? most of the choices are vegetables or spring rolls. i rarely see tuna and what happened to the philadelphia rolls?
WHERE'S MY SUMMERFIELDS BREAKFAST
this is some progress, but why can't everything from the menu be made into a meal? quesadillas are so cheap, why can't we get them with a salad and drink or whatever?
Good to hear progress. Hopefully we can continue moving in this direction in the future.
I asked Michael Strumph about making quesadillas into a meal, and the reason it isn't feasible is because of space issues. Summerfields's grill is too small to cook more than about three quesadillas at one time because they take up a lot of room. If they were added as a meal, many more students would order them, and you'd have to wait an unreasonable amount of time to get your entree.

the quesadillas are also terrible. they can suck my points
why don't they just make it the way it was before. it was much better before, instead of the constant burgers and junk food it serves now. at least before there was a real dinner
bread bar and salad bar.
PLEEEEASE!! ITS ALL I ASK!!
i agree 7:55. the best thing about summerfields was that it was a real homecooked style meal, with like, nutrients and stuff. if i had eaten burgers and pizza at usdan every day last year, i would've gotten scurvey or some crazy shit.
