A recent study by the esteemed researchers at the Institute for Family Hilarity (UC Davis Division) revealed that family dynamics benefit enormously from joint viewing of improv shows. They found that embarrassment about parents also decreased by up to 34% when said improv was of the "long form variety." A select few research participants even experienced orgasm during periods of extended laughter.

Homecoming / Family Weekend starts today.

Highlights from this year's weekend include:

20 WESeminars featuring alumni, parents, faculty, staff and students. Topics range from the 2008 presidential election to climate change, from writing thrillers to tackling the New York Times crossword puzzle. All WESeminars are free and open to everyone, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Wesleyan Football, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, and Field Hockey vs. Amherst, plus Men’s and Women’s Rugby matches.

The Eighth Annual Taste of Middlesex County Lunch where Andrus Field becomes a showcase of the delicious, diverse food in the Middletown area. Enjoy Indian, Jamaican, Thai and Italian cuisines, plus soups, sandwiches, homemade desserts and more.

The 16th Annual Dwight L. Greene ‘70 Symposium: “Enough: The Future of Black America” featuring NPR senior correspondent Juan Williams.

Two piece Blues band from Los Angeles. Signed to Cantora Records, the label that first signed MGMT. Playing at Eclectic before playing a couple of CMJ showcases in NYC.

PAPA
Recently formed NYC band just starting to play shows. Filled with a group of successful musicians who have teamed up to create the group. + the drummer sings.

Slang Chickens
When the band Wires on Fire split up, one member joined Queens of the Stone Age, the other formed Slang Chickens. They are embarking on their first East Coast Tour.

Patterns of Inheritance, Internet Opera

Come see Patterns of Inheritance, a "modern opera about the internet", by Ben Bernstein '10. This sounds ridiculously intriguing:

The entire libretto is composed of chopped up blog posts and Wikipedia articles, and the orchestrations are fragments as well. Using movement and a cast of five singers and eight instrumentalists, and six dancers, the opera attempts to paint a picture of the information we process, distribute, and inherit through the internet.

Green Corps is looking for college graduates who are ready to take on the biggest environmental challenges of our day.

In Green Corps’ year-long paid program, you’ll get intensive training in the skills you’ll need to make a difference in the world. You’ll get hands-on experience fighting to solve urgent environmental problems — global warming, deforestation, water pollution and many others — with groups such as Sierra Club and Greenpeace. And, when you graduate from Green Corps, we’ll help you find a career with one of the nation’s leading environmental and social change groups.

If you're interested, a Green Corps field organizer is hosting an on-campus info session this Thursday, Oct. 16 from 7:00-8:00 PM in PAC 002 and will be conducting interviews on Friday (Oct. 17) in the CRC from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM.
