Patterns of Inheritance, Internet Opera

Come see Patterns of Inheritance, a "modern opera about the internet", by Ben Bernstein '10. This sounds ridiculously intriguing:

The entire libretto is composed of chopped up blog posts and Wikipedia articles, and the orchestrations are fragments as well. Using movement and a cast of five singers and eight instrumentalists, and six dancers, the opera attempts to paint a picture of the information we process, distribute, and inherit through the internet.

Rocktoberfest

Bernice Laille of Bon Appetit writes in to remind us that Rocktoberfest is coming up at dinner this Thursday, Oct. 16. The faculty band Busted Roses, including special musical guest Michael Roth, will be performing from 6:00-9:00. BA will be serving a German-style meal including "Best of the Wurst Sausages," Spätzle, Sauerkraut, Blaukraut, potato salad, and root beer kegs. Be there or be rechtwinklig!

Green Corps is looking for college graduates who are ready to take on the biggest environmental challenges of our day.

In Green Corps’ year-long paid program, you’ll get intensive training in the skills you’ll need to make a difference in the world. You’ll get hands-on experience fighting to solve urgent environmental problems — global warming, deforestation, water pollution and many others — with groups such as Sierra Club and Greenpeace. And, when you graduate from Green Corps, we’ll help you find a career with one of the nation’s leading environmental and social change groups.

If you're interested, a Green Corps field organizer is hosting an on-campus info session this Thursday, Oct. 16 from 7:00-8:00 PM in PAC 002 and will be conducting interviews on Friday (Oct. 17) in the CRC from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM.

Take Back the Night Events

Take Back the Night returns this Thursday with a rally at the steps of Olin. It will then proceed with a march to several locations on campus for speak-out circles, and conclude with a candlelight vigil. For those of you who don't know, Take Back the Night is an annual event at Wesleyan University and college campuses nationwide to raise awareness about sexual violence. This event is an opportunity for the Wesleyan community to gather in support of survivors of sexual violence and for those survivors to share their stories in a safe space. Everyone is encouraged to attend and participate in this important and powerful event.

Also, curious about what Take Back the Night means? Come to the Convocation, where we will discuss the history and importance of Take Back the Night at Wesleyan and answer any questions you may have about the event. Femnet will be there to talk about current changes being made to Wesleyan's sexual assault policies. There will be free food!

The S&C is back!

That's right! After a long month of less-tasty dining, the Star and Crescent's chef is back from his honeymoon and ready to cook some delicious meals at Alpha Delt starting this Monday, October 13th.

Meals are served Monday through Thursday for dinner, and Tuesday through Thursday for lunch. Hours and sit-down prices have not changed from last year, they remain:

Lunch: 12:00-12:30, 8 points

Dinner: 5:00-7:00, 10 points.

The policy instituted last semester of a 50 cent surcharge for to go orders will remain in effect this year.

This year's S&C Stewards (Nick Field '09 and Gus Spelman '11) will be selling meal contracts during dining hours through the next two weeks (essentially this consists of buying a set number of meals (lunches/dinners) per week up front at a discount). Full details of the costs will be available at that time.

October 15th

Lunch – Shrimp or Tofu Mango Curry, Jasmine Rice. (VEGAN)

Dessert: Tropical Fruit Yogurt

Dinner – Green salad, Basil vin., Rotini w/ Grilled Chicken or Tofu, Tomato Cream, Roasted Broccoli

October 16th

Lunch – Scrambled Eggs Mexicana w/ Black beans and Rice, Chipotle Drizzle
