Slam poet and activist coming to Wes

Slam poet and activist Andrea Gibson, winner of the first annual Women of the World Poetry Slam, is coming to Wesleyan! Her work deals with issues of war, race, sexuality, gender, art, sexual assault, and (of course) love and heartbreak. This will be a phenomenal show, well worth the three bucks.

There will be a free dinner-dicussion with Andrea after the show, open to all Wes kids who buy tickets.

Arabic Night, with food and music

Turath House and the Arabic Language Program are cosponsoring Arabic Night. We will serve lots of pita bread and hummus, Tunisian tagine, Arabian coffee, and shisha! You can also sing and dance along with some Middle Eastern tunes. Come, it’s free!

Clean up trails around the Wadsworth Mansion

Cathy Lechowicz, Director of Community Service and Volunteerism, writes:

The Wadsworth Mansion is looking for volunteers to conduct a trail cleanup. The cleanup will be led by Jane Harris, an avid volunteer who is knowledgeable about trails, trees and shrubs. Any able volunteers can join in the cleanup. Refreshments will be offered. Interested students should contact Barbara MacEachern at bmaceachern@wes.

I'd recommend helping out for three reasons:

1. You'll get to clean up a beautiful part of Middletown, helping the environment.
2. You'll get to interact with Middletown residents and act as an ambassador for Wesleyan.
3. The Wadsworth Mansion and the surrounding area (the backyard, the trails, the hills, and the abutting Wadsworth Falls State Park) are gorgeous areas. The birch forests and the shade trees along the old carriage entrance are things no Wesleyan student should miss.

Movie: Power of Community

This movie is about How Cuba survived and thrived after the fall of the Soviet Union. Power of Community Shows redistributed Land, revamped their healthcare system, and reorganized their public transportation system.
