Songs for a New World

Second Stage presents Songs for a New World, directed and choreographed by Elizabeth Trammell '10, music directed by Steph Ross '09.

A six-person cast will take you through a musical journey, portraying an array of characters from Christopher Columbus to the wife of Santa Claus, to more modern stories, such as a woman searching for love in wealth and a young man hoping that basketball will be his ticket out of the ghetto. Ultimately, the show teaches us about ourselves and our journeys throughout the stories and characters of today, accompanied by the music of a new world.

Thanksgiving Celebration Dinner at Usdan

Tickets to Thursday's Thanksgiving dinner at Usdan are still available:

Join us for our family-style Thanksgiving celebration dinner for the students served by volunteer Wesleyan faculty and staff in USDAN Marketplace (2^nd Floor). Both dining rooms will be arranged family style with most tables seating 12 people. Seating arrangement is on first come first serve basis in groups of 12. Vegan options will be available.

There will be two seatings for that evening:
* 5:00 p.m. – Please arrive by 4:45 pm.
* 7:30 p.m. – Please arrive by 7:15 pm.

RESERVATION BY TICKET: Here’s how the reservation is taken:
1. Decide which seating you and your friends want to attend
2. Pay at any register in USDAN Marketplace (2nd floor) or Café (1st floor).
3. Two Payment Options:
a. Meal Plan – Pre-pay $3.00 with points or cash & swipe a meal for $9.25 on your card the day of the event
b. Points, Cash or Credit Card – Pre-pay $12.25 at the register
4. Upon purchase of the ticket, you get a receipt from the cashier and bring it to the USDAN information desk located in the 1st floor.
5. Tell which seating you want, and the ticket will be dispensed.

ACTIVITIES THAT EVENING: There will be a handprint turkey drawing contest that evening -white placemat & crayons available. Bring out your creative side! The winners of the contest will have their art work displayed in Marketplace, and will receive jars of local artisan made jams.

"Sand and Sorrow" Screening

Come see Sand and Sorrow, a film about the conflict in Sudan and the genocide in Darfur, directed by Paul Freedman and narrated by George Clooney.
The movie will be followed by a discussion with members of WeSTAND, baked goods will be provided for FREE!

NWP Benefit Concert on Thursday

The Nagarote-Wesleyan Partnership is throwing a benefit concert at 200 Church tomorrow night:

Come support Wesleyan's own The Stone Helms, The Last Minute, & The Bea'les for a night of great music for a great cause! All donations will benefit the Jeronimo-Lopez Youth Project in Nagarote, Nicaragua.

Transgender Day of Remembrance

The Transgender Day of Remembrance serves several purposes. It raises public awareness of hate crimes against transgender people, an action that current media doesn't perform. Day of Remembrance publicly mourns and honors the lives of our brothers and sisters who might otherwise be forgotten. Through the vigil, we express love and respect for our people in the face of national indifference and hatred. Day of Remembrance reminds non-transgender people that we are their sons, daughters, parents, friends and lovers. Day of Remembrance gives our allies a chance to step forward with us and stand in vigil, memorializing those of us who've died by anti-transgender violence.

The CT TransAdvocacy Coalition, Metropolitan Community Church of Hartford and many of our allies and community will be remembering those individuals who are brutally murdered simply because they did not conform to societies standards of what a "real man or woman" looks or acts like.
