Wesleying is Here to Recruit You

We're launching the new Wesleying soon. For real. Very soon. It will be on the Internet and you will go to there instead of here.

In the meantime, we’re stepping up our game.

It’s halfway through the semester, and half of our active contributors are graduating in May. Wesleying needs some new talent.

Of ways to get involved at Wes, being a regular Wesleying blogger probably requires one of the most minimal time commitments. But it also has possibly the greatest potential to shape student discourse, provoke discussion, and keep people informed and entertained at Wesleyan.

At least, that’s the goal. We get a shit-ton of emails, and over the past year event submissions have become the vast majority of the emails we get. Don’t get us wrong, we love posting what you send in, and really appreciate that so many of you think of Wesleying when advertising events - keep them coming.

But right now there are only so many of us and the more time each of us spends posting events, the less we have to write actual content about things you care about.

So to lighten the load on us and to better serve you, the readers, we’re opening up.

If you:
a) are interested in things,
b) are literate,
c) have an insufferable need to share information, and/or
d) have an especially keen sense of what goes on at Wesleyan,
we want you!

Any combination of these qualities will suffice. But that last one will make us really, really want you, because what goes on at Wesleyan is at the core of what Wesleying is, has been, and will continue to be.

If you just recognized yourself in any of these general criteria, shoot us an email at staff(at)wesleying(dot)org and tell us a little about yourself and why you're interested in joining Wesleying. No pressure.

We'll be taking applicants all semester, but hope to hit the ground running with a larger blogging staff when classes start after spring break. If you're interested, don't wait!

Winter Break: congrats, we've made it!

Our classes are out. Our finals are, with any luck, complete. We've partied till sunup, despite the University screwing with Reading Week. And we're one semester closer to graduation... sad as that may be, for some of us.

Welcome to Winter Break, Wesleyan!

As Wesleying co-founder Xue Sun '08 wrote back in 2007:

It is Winter Break. We are rotting away at home, recovering from finals, nursing hangovers, playing Snood in our underwear and watching Judge Judy.

That still rings true... well, maybe, without the Judge Judy part. So, in the grand Wesleying–Winter Break tradition, we'll be focusing less on Wesleyan, and more on things we call "totally unrelated to Wesleyan."

And, this Winter Break, we'd like your input.

Help us prevent brain rot—or, help us promote it! Send us the snarky websites and maddeningly-addictive games that kept you up until sunrise, as your unfinished papers stared back at you from the computer screen. If you're doing something interesting over Winter Break, send us your story and some photos. If you're an alumnus, let us know what you're up to these days.

You know the drill: wesleying@gmail. We'll round up the best submissions and do our darndest to keep you (mildly) entertained and (marginally) thinking over break.

Behind the scenes, we'll be working hard to bring you a new and improved Wesleying for next semester. We'll also be recruiting new contributors in the coming weeks.

So, keep an eye out, and enjoy your time off!

Argus Recruitment

The Argus is recruiting new members, today at 2 pm at the Argus office above Broad Street Books. All grades are welcome, no experience required, just interest in making news/opinions/etc. at Wes.

Peace demonstration in Middletown! Tuesday!

Yo, friends who want to stop the killing. WesPeace has been doing some planning, and now the ball's in our court:

Peace Demonstration in Middletown, March to Recruitment Office

Tuesday, November 27th at 4 PM

• Congregate at the Usdan Courtyard after classes, between 4:00 and 4:15
• We will march down Wyllys, High, Washington, and Main to the Army National Guard Recruitment Office
• One group will stage a sit-in at the office, pass out a flier detailing a few "top military recruitment lies," (see below post) and talk to recruiters and passers-by. Others will continue to City Hall to follow-up on the presentation of the Middletown Common Council Resolution Against the War, reading the document aloud in front of City Hall.
• If you plan to go into the recruitment office, please e-mail acasale@wesleyan.edu to get on the e-mail list for discussion of the plans and tips on civil disobedience. We will also talk before the march.
• Bring signs & noisemakers and wear bright colors!

The message of our action is: END THE WAR! END THE MILITARIZATION OF YOUTH!
