NYT Readership Program Reduced

Last year, the price of the NYT Readership Program went up substantially. The WSA approached the administration departments who are currently helping us pay for the program and asked if they'd join us in increasing the budget for the program so that we could keep the delivery at the same level. We also approached new departments.
Unfortunately, the program was not a high enough priority in the context of ongoing budget reductions; not only did the administration refuse to meet our budget increase, but they also decided to completely withdraw their support for next year.
The WSA decided that for the current year we would retain the higher delivery quantity through the election to meet increased demand, and then pay the price later with a severely reduced delivery. That time has come, and as of November 17 we have only been receiving half as many papers as we received during the election.
The WSA is still committed to this program, and in the email I sent out this morning, I asked you to contact me if you are interested in saving it. We are in the early stages of planning a potential solution that we will need your help on next semester, so please do send me an email. My address is scarlin@wes.
In the meantime, you can read the New York Times online at nytimes.com. It's free and paperless.

ugh no wonder they run out so fast now. damn recession!
Wow, this is definitely not something that should be cut from the budget. We are an educational institution and newspapers help us on that mission.
COnsidering you can read everything online and the readership is only being reduced, not removed, I don't see a problem with trying to save money.
I agree with 3:12. The NYTimes Readership Program is nice, but it's not in my list of top things to save with our endowment dying, considering that we can read the paper online. In theory, I'd like to support the New York Times business, but I think there are more important things (ie. professor salaries, supporting student groups, etc.)
Why is nobody mentioning reading it and putting it back? It's not so hard!
crosswordssssssss
nooooo
Do they not put any in Exeley at all anymore? I didn't see any at 9:30 today. Bullshit
There are probably plenty of ridiculous things Wesleyan could cut (like some ridiculous pc initiatives)that would give us more than enough money for a subscription. I'm not at all advocating taking away from profs/ depts/ etc, but seriously some of the things this school invests in..
uhh. another miscellany plug. lame. get out of here, Vassar
just read it online, folks
or leave the sections that you aren't going to read for other people...and ideally return the sections you do read when your done.
so the sharing would work for this year but maybe you missed the part where it reads, "but they also decided to completely withdraw their support for next year."
nooo this is an important part of student life!
I LOVE this school, but if the newspaper is eliminated, I am going to have some serious misgivings. With our tuition, I think we should have the ability to hold a real newspaper in our fingers. I believe a lot more dialogue about current events occurs because of this than would occur if we were all forced to go to their website on our own. It just feels different.
come on, like we aren't all completely attached to our computer screens already. stop whining.
can you do the crossword online without paying?
Dude, maybe not, but then suck it up and pay for it. I don't want my tuition dollars going to support your crossword puzzle habit.
