Queer Safer Sex workshop on Thursday

Zak Kirwood '12 writes to let us know that there will be a Queer Safer Sex workshop on Thursday.

It'll be facilitated by Planned Parenthood community educator T. R. Richardson, who I happen to know is extremely groovy and exciting. From what I know, she runs the workshop based on the interests of the group. There will be Thai food.

Zak also shares a fun fact: apparently, the penis shoots semen at 25 mph! Buckle your seatbelts, sexually active readers!

Organizing Workshop with the Sylvia Rivera Law Project
The Sylvia Rivera Law Project is a collective non-profit centered on gender, racial, social and economic justice. Led by collective member Gael Guevara, this workshop is an opportunity for conversation and skill-building for organizing at Wesleyan and beyond, and for exploration of ideas like community, accountability, leadership, identity, and what it means to be an "activist."

Led by Dean Spade, founder of the Sylvia Rivera Law Project and a lawyer, social justice activist, and radical thinker. Come listen to a talk and participate in discussion about important issues facing queer and trans social movements today.

Queer movies and TV shows at Open House

Do love movies like Better than Chocolate, Billy Elliot, or series like The L Word, Queer as Folk, and Noah's Arc? Well, Open House has your fix!

We now have both Showtime for The L Word and LOGO for series like Queer as Folk and a wide variety of queer films.

Starting today (Thursday), Open House will be screening all four episodes of The L Word at 10:00 PM. They will host screenings of new L Word episodes every Sunday at 9:00 PM. And starting next week, premieres of queer movies and TV series on the LOGO network will be shown. More details will follow.

Gay Affirmative Action?

Middlebury College is considering sexual orientation in its admissions decisions:

Middlebury College is this year for the first time giving students who identify themselves as gay in the admissions process an “attribute” — the same flagging of an application that members of ethnic minority groups, athletes, alumni children and others receive, according to Shawn Rae Passalacqua, assistant director of admissions at Middlebury. His announcement surprised many of those who attended the session, and who said that they had never heard of a college having such a policy.
